Re: [RC] re: movies and preparation of the uninitiated - rides2far

Aside from the generally cynical and naturally irreverent
 > nature of some of us,

I resemble that remark! Geez, I really don't mean to hurt any feelings.
I've been putting in the obligatory >g< and :-). I've written a couple
of humorous stories here and there about where we get our new members and
though I'm making light of it, it's true that endurance riders have
always been obsessive about not advertising their events to the general
public, they tend to sort of hand pick new participants. The advertising
for this event seems to be an "All call" and that's just something new.

The movie reference was a slam at the movies, not the participants. Has
nobody else noticed that EVERY movie that has a long distance ride
requires the rider to knock somebody else off their horse? I bought the
movie "Virginia's Run" at the bargain bin and was actually slightly
impressed that they seemed to even have the concept of vet checks vaguely
covered and everybody STILL spent all their time shoving each other off
their horses at a dead run. Their accents were DEFINATELY not from
Alabama so I don't think they got their conceptions of long distance
racing etiquette from Jody. >g<

Angie (who has no intention of trying to pass Jody anywhere near the last
loop of a ride!)
