Re: [RC] [RC] [RC] camping and generators Don't be haters - Sisu West Ranch

".... He also pointed out there is a reason that most
deep cycle batteries have a year warranty on them - they don't expect
them to last much longer..."

Another part of the reason for the short warrantee is that they get very poor maintenance. Most folk run them down using the trolling motor, leave them in the boat and then charge them just before the next fishing trip. They also either leave an old-fashioned charger on them all winter or again completely ignore them. From what I've heard on RC the last few years, many LQ trailers are not wired properly to their tow vehicles, so again the battery gets abused.

A still further part of the equation is that selling automobile and light truck batteries is very competitive. Purchase a standard LSI 60 month battery and install in a farm tractor. If it dies and your dealer finds out that it was not in a car, he will spout a bunch of BS about how the battery is not warantee'd for such "rough" service and you should have purchased his special commercial or farm battery. You will then find that the battery he recommends is probably only warantee'd for a year.

As far as road vibration killing them, the LSI battery in the truck is guaranteed for 60 to 72 months and gets about the same vibration etc.

Before I started using battery maintainers I got 3 years on the single deep cycle for the truck camper. I have definitely increased battery life now.

Don't get me wrong, I am not saying that Truman is guilty of battery abuse (If I were still in MN I probably could find a 12 step program for that*), and I am not saying that my current experience is normal. I think that the average person who takes good care of the deep cycle should experience more life than Truman has.

When my present batteries go to China** for recycling, I definitely will try the Optima they sound like a good product.

**There was a TV documentary a few years ago showing how most battery recycling had moved to China. The reason was that the government did not care if the land and the people were sickened or worse from the lead. This may or not be an true statement, so don't blame me if I got it wrong.
