Re: [RC] [RC] horse sizes....etc - rides2far@xxxxxxxx

I have a concern about my 14'2"hh Arab/Pinto who has a long
back. I am a middleweight . . . does anyone think that a long-backed
horse has less potential to carry heavier weight . . . thanks . . kim
from lakeport

If the back is fairly level, well muscled, with a good loin, I don't
have a problem with a little extra length. I think you can go too far
on the "short back is good, so shorter must be better" trip. I've had
a horse whose back was so darned short that the saddle gets into
their hips and their rear feet are awfully close to the front. Kaboot
had a long back (I'm lightweight) but it was well muscled. I liked
his ride better than my "new improved" short backed model.
