a) The one that fits your horse the best, now and 6 months from now.
b) The one that fits you the best now, and, uh, 6 months from now as you increase your skills or change your outward appearance. :-) Of course you could buy a new one.
c) The one which fits your need for security or to have nothing in your way.


Subtopics include spreading weight over the greatest possible surface area (newer high tech pads can help with that), those which put you in a neutral place so that you aren't working to hard to post or stay balanced, etc.

The "endurance type" can be either english endurance or western endurance. The treeless saddles can be either category. Then there are "flex panel" saddles which can be pure English, pure Western or endurance. Confuzzled yet? :-) Lots of vendors at http:// www.endurance.net so you can get an idea of the types.
