RE: [RC] Coming off & Using Helmets - Mike Sherrell

I met a guy at Pt. Reyes who told of running a tree branch through one of the ventilation slots on his helmet. His horse kept on going and he was slid off the back of the horse, dangled, and dropped when the branch broke. Sturdy chin strap on the helmet, I guess.

Subject: [RC] Coming off & Using Helmets

I actually had a local gal tell me it was a good thing she wasn't  wearing a helmet when a motorcycle spooked her Quarter horse on pavement & she smashed her head on the street.  Her response was that she "went out like a light" instead of staying coherent ( & with less head trauma I would think. ) She honestly believed it was the best way to go ! She was pretty touch & go for several weeks.  I used to hire her to haul horses , as she did this as part of her living, and I now wouldn't feel comfortable with her decision making cells !  BTW- The horse was known to be a problem waiting to happen, not a solid trail mount.  I always wear a helmet to protect my brain cells- both of them !  Be Safe !
