[RC] [RC] Pawing - sherman

I wonder if the idea that horses need an exact feeding schedule was due to stalled or dry lot horses that have absolutely no feed unless someone gives it to them having colic problems. Since that whole concept is contrary to their needs and can sometimes result in their stomachs emptying out if they’re not fed enough, it is a set-up for colic, along with ulcers, right?

Ditto here.  Our guys are out on scanty pasture all day, with access to a round bale.  They get their grain/beet pulp every evening "around" 7 pm.  That means somewhere between 6 and 8 pm.  LOL  If we get home late, they might end up waiting till 9 or 9:30 pm (which doesn't make for happy ponies, but there's not much they can do about it other than give us dirty looks when we pull in the driveway).  No routine here.  Of course, they start gathering hopefully in the vicinity of the barn around 5 pm, just in case we may want to feed early that day.  Hope springs eternal...  :)
