RE: [RC] A stronger nudge to the ridecamp community: club foot and endurance - Alison Farrin

The one thing that I have found most important is to trim, understanding
that the finished foot will be more upright than a normal foot. Take
off too much heel and you are asking for a suspensory injury. You can
work the foot down closer to normal angles over time, and we've also
found that a club foot will do better on a 4 week trim cycle rather than
6 weeks or longer. If you rasp your horses hooves yourself, just
keeping his foot in balance to itself works well.

I rode a fairly severe club footed mare on trails for several years
prior to doing endurance; my ride buddy has a slightly clubfooted horse
with over 1000 endurance miles, that lives at my house and I manage.
Never a hoof lameness issue with either of them. We did get bit by the
suspensory issue when the farrier "evened up" the horse to get his feet
looking the same.
