[RC] RHR in youngsters - Carolyn Burgess

I start all of my horses (3 so far) in CTR for two reasons:  we have alot of them in the NE (ECTRA - an AWESOME group) and they learn how to ride at a particular pace.  What that really means is that they have to learn to listen to me.  It also teaches them how to be calm and that having a horse pass you is not a reason to race or to have a melt down ('cause we can catch them later :-o)

I've also found that some horses "get it" after a few rides.  My husbands Appaloosa had trouble pulsing down at a hold and at the end of a ride.  He would eventually do it, but he lost points in his first few rides because he had trouble getting to 44 (CTR end pulse in ECTRA rules).  Most of it was excitement.  But now after about 1/2 dozen rides, he pulses in about 5 minutes in a hold and can pulse to 44 at the end of the ride in the 20 minutes allowed.

pace - if they want to learn.
