Re: [RC] RHR in youngsters - Sisu West Ranch

Elinor:

"...Actually, as a UMECRA competitive rider and ride manager, I don't like to
see you use the CTR initial for our rides..."

When I first posted about this subject (years ago) on Ridecamp, I used the "correct" UMECRA designation of a "competitive ride". I quickly found out that people in the rest of the country did not have any clue as to what it was. Rather than to explain at length each time what it was, I decided to use the generally understood CTR name. You will note that in I do refer to UMECRA and often refer folk to the UMECRA website so they can read the rules and thus understand that UMECRA "comettitive rides" are different from some other rides especially as regards horsemanship judging, and pace.

The problem as I see it is one of symantics. When posting to a national audience, I need a generic term to refer to the horse sport characterized by riding 25 or more miles at a fixed and predetermined pace, with the winner judged by horse condition measures and optionally rider horsemanship. CTR is a convenient abreviation for what the sport is called everywhere but in UMECRA country.

Could you suggest a better generic term, that would be understood by people all over our country?
