Re: [RC] Followup on unspoonsored Juniors - Diane Trefethen

Mike,

When I first read your post, I thought you had made good points. Upon further consideration, I do not think so. You say it would be unfair to allow a rider to switch back and forth between divisions but we allow seniors to do that. Why forbid juniors? You say it is unfair because competitors need to know who they are competing against. When I was competing, I didn't care crap about who was in my weight division. First MW? So what? Unless one is in serious contention for a year end award, the only thing that matters at any given race is who might beat you out for
Top Ten. And Top Ten has nothing to do with whether you are a HW, a LW or a JR. Heck, the main reason most people care about who is at the race is so they can go over and exchange greetings and make plans for dinner.

The bottom line here is that we allow seniors to change their divisions based on changes in their circumstances. Fairness to the other riders is NOT a factor. Therefore your unfairness argument is illegal since it is being arbitrarily applied to only one class of riders.

How else might you justify this arbitrary ruling - NOT RULE?
