Re: [RC] Weight - Tiffany D'Virgilio

Shaq O'Neal shows MUCH more wear and tear on his body that a lighter guy. He hasn't played an 82 game season in years. It was one of the reasons Dr. Buss traded him. He was always hurt because he was always carrying way too much weight, and his body is gradually breaking down. Feet seem to be a problem for him, and other big men such as Bill Walton back in the day. Have you ever watched Shaq play a whole game, cuz that bad boy is huffing and puffing and tired out, has a big problem getting back on defense, and generally looks sweaty and lethargic and isn't finishing the way he used to. Shaq always ran out of gas, especially when he was closer to 375 than the playing weight ascribed to him (about 45 pounds lighter than he really is). He is NOT conditioned to it-that's the problem.?

So what? That weight is comfortable to him. He has conditioned to it. At the

end of the game, I sincerely doubt his body is suffering on whit more than a

lighter player who played the same number of minutes (excluding nursing

bumps and bruises). Now, will his extra size work against his body as he

ages? Maybe. I really couldn't tell you. He's the height nature meant him to

be, and muscle increases bone mass. So, who knows, he might be better off. I

expect he'll have more lasting problems from basketball-related injuries
