[RC] [FWD: re: Weight] - heidi

Here's another little tidbit that was posted to me privately from someone who couldn't get it to post on RC.  Bruce, there is hope for you yet....  <g>

This predates AERC, but I don't think the physics or the physiology have changed any since the US Remount ran these trials nearly a century ago.  The main variable here was that the gelding named Crabbet was the only Arabian entered.  I can't recall for sure, but I think he was also the smallest horse there--which likely helped him to do this well.  Interesting to note that he is within Susan G's "significant combined weight" parameter, since together, he and his rider weigh less than 1200 lbs, despite his rider tacking in at 245.

Heidi

Heidi - I couldn't get this to post on ridecamp:

FYI:

FROM WAR HORSE TO SHOW HORSE by Gladys Brown Edwards:

Pg 51-52  a horse named *Crabbet won the 1921 US Official Endurance Ride,
300 miles in five days, carrying 245 lbs

Pg 284  *CRABBET sired by RIJM .[ pg 51 - out of NARDA II ]
stood 15.2 hands and weighed 925 lbs.

925 lbs x 25% = 231.25 lbs
