Heck I figured a really wealthy and devious person might pay the $4000 so that *I* could ride Potato's horse, since his agreement says that the rider has to ride with him.  That way, Potato would be stuck down in the bottom of the American River Canyon when I get heat prostration and fall off of his leased horse, and would be effectively eliminated from the front-running competition...  <g>

That is a -really- interesting historical point you just made about the AERC
decision to level the playing field for people who couldn't afford to
fly/trailer around to as many rides as wealthy, retired people---like ??
those folks who are leasing Potato's horse for Tevis, and a more or less
guaranteed Top Ten, for $4,000.
