Re: [RC] Ribbons - Sky Ranch

That's so true -- almost all of the rides around here have ribbons on
clothespins. Easy to put up and take down, and more obvious to the riders.

One way to handle that is to put ALL your flags on clothes pins and state
that at the briefing. I have never seen forestry flagging tied to clothes
pins. Also, we use a two-color system....neon pink with white. The pink
shows in the forest, the white shows at night. Clothes pins allow you to
hang them and remove them much more quickly and to re-use them year after
year.

2 East TX rides are held in a National Forest. 90% of the flags in that
forest are from logging - you have to be really careful not to follow
logging flags or the woods will swallow you up!

As soon as she found out I was an endurance rider she started
to complain about the ribbons an Endurance ride had left in a
particular state forest. She would not believe that not only
we had not had a ride there for 2 years (to many ribbons and
direction signs vandalized by casual riders), but that I had
seen the ribbons she mentioned and that they were obviously
put there by either state personnel or hunters as they were
not on any trail we had ever used.
