RE: [RC] Jr's and stallions - heidi

No, there is no AERC rule that prohibits juniors from riding stallions.  Some rides may have such a rule, but I don't recall one, offhand.

Three different juniors rode our stallion Abu Ben Surrabu (aka "Junior")--Lindsay Westergard, Megan Hunter, and Christopher Johnson.  Lindsay did three 100-milers on him, and was well up in the PNER Junior 100-mile standings on him.  All three were sponsored by their moms, if memory serves.

I also remember Holly Gervais riding Pat Gisvold's old stallion Tezero and the two of them doing a beautiful job.

I didn't do any endurance until I was 17, so was technically not a junior (although we didn't have a separate division back then for juniors, either)--but I did my first ride (Virginia City 100) on my stallion Surrabu, the sire of Abu Ben Surrabu.  I did two CTRs on him the year before that, and I think I won the junior division at both.

It all depends on the individual stallion and the individual junior....

I have a question about juniors riding stallions. I thought I read somewhere that junior riders are not permitted to ride stallions. I've looked through the AERC rules and have not found any such thing.
Is there a rule stating that junior riders cannot ride a stallion in a sanctioned AERC event?
I'm asking for a teammate...the junior is a competent rider, but myself...not sure I'd turn a stallion loose with a kid on top.

TIA,
Darlene Anderson
