Re: [RC] Horse Branding - Sisu West Ranch

"...It sounds like a fright train coming and will be very difficult to stop..."

I'm not worried about stopping the train. Here we need more effective equine disease and movement control. MT talks a good game, but really does little. My guess is that when things hit here, chips will not be the only acceptable method. I like the idea of having a very visible ID because it makes theft just a bit harder.

We already are required to have "brand inspection:" papers to take our horses out of the county. Of course when a real system that actually ID's the animals shows up I'll bet we will have to pay the fee again for verification, and issuance of new papers that nobody will ever check.

I expect a real screaming match when it hits here. The good citizens of MT, go balistic whenever one mentions any regulation (Why can't I have a beer while I drive? Speed limits, we didn't need them when I was young. We really don't need a sewer system just because our town is 10 times as big as it was 100 years ago.) But many still make their living raising cows and sheep. When it sinks into their heads that they need real ID to sell them out of state, and that Japan doesn't care if a rancher looses some "freedom", it will come.
