Re: [RC] Small acreage... manure management? - Sisu West Ranch

"...Will this work on LAWN and not field? (How ugly is it, and how many clumps does
it leave that the lawnmower might have trouble with?)..."

What you want your lawn to look like is a personal thing. Personally I would want to compost manure before putting on the lawn. Once composted, there is no smell, no flies, no weed seed problem etc. It can be put everywhere.

If your intent is to do some good, you will be putting a fair layer on the lawn. This will be visible for awhile until the grass grows etc. It all depends on what you want in a lawn. When I was a kid, even in NJ, there were some that had dump truck loads of composted manure spread on their lawns. One of our neighbors, didn't understand about composting. He had at least 2 inches of FRESH cow put on his lawn. For city folk, the smell was the talk of the neighborhood. The grass really grew (fresh has much more nitrogen), but so did every weed from the hay or pasture. The worst was the bumper crop of dandelions! He didn't do that again.
