Re: [RC] Saddle fit/ leathers - Truman Prevatt

I don't use an OF any longer so it's sort of a moot point. However, I tried every thing. I like to ride with long legs a lot of the time - helps to have a lot of leg on a brain dead, dumb ass, Ayyyyyyyrab when a burnt log attacks him on the trail at a gallop ;-) - especially if you have a lot of body above the saddle and need the leg to stay aboard.

Riding with long legs I could never find a spot or configuration for those buckles that they didn't bug me. If I rode with shorter stirrups - it wasn't as much of a problem. Putting English leathers on the OF solved my problem.

Well, everybody I ride with has fixed theirs like mine. I turn them *inside out* so the flatter side of the buckle is *away* from my leg and towards the saddle. The buckle closes downward, and I place it below my knee, above my calf. (the buckle is on the inside of the loop, against the saddle with the otherside of the loop laying on top against my leg)There is a majic spot there where I NEVER get any sort of rub whatsoever. Surely on someone with longer legs than mine the majic spot is even bigger. It does make the buckle make a groove in your saddle so if you're obsessive about your saddle you may not like it but I'd rather have a groove in it than my leg!
