RE: [RC] Tents vs LQ - Pat and Janett Van NulandHi Mel,
I don't post much, but this one I had to jump in on.
I have camped all my life, so horse camping was no big deal. (Just a
little
more work) We have horse camped about 7/8 years now and it can be fun. Lots
of people have LQ. which I envy :>), But you will see a few tents around
base camp. A few years back (5, I think) we were at the "Land of the
Neversweats" outside of Susanville, back when the ride was in March and it
snowed. I was prepared for it from the weather saying it might snow. (Rm
said it had never snowed that late there so we went). I have been cold in
the truck cab before and really there is more room in a tent. (I also own a
sleeping bag that goes to 0 degrees, just in case, never expected to ever
use it thou). As you probably know cold comes up from the ground, so I was
well prepared that way too. I was very surprised when I got up in the
morning and found 2-3 inches of snow everywhere. I was never cold that
night, in fact I slept real well. (except when others would start the motors
of generators etc. ) Throughout the day I heard people making comments about
"the idiot in the tent". BUT I WAS VERY WARM!!
After a few years my husband saw a truck tent in a Chevy catalog and
bought
it as a gift, it also matches my make and color of my truck. kinda cool I
thought. My friends and I refer to ourselves as "Tent trash" but I am
looking for a camper for those multi day rides I want to do. So hopefully
this year I might move up to Camper trash :>) I do think the truck tent is a
better idea from a safety stand point. Any ways happy tent camping and have
fun.

Subject: [RC] Tents vs LQ
Hey guys!
I have been reading and noticing that most of you seem to have LQ trailers.
I was thinking that when I actually make it to a ride, I would camp in my
tent. Am I going to be the only *ijit* out there "roughing it?"
I am an avid backpacker and have all of the gear I need. I actually like
sleeping in a tent!
Is there any reason that tent camping is bad at and endurance ride? I could
sleep in my dressing room if there is some sort of tent taboo.
Just curious as I have no experience whatsoever and am gathering info.
Thanks!
Mel
