[RC] Tents vs LQ - heidi larson

Well, I've slept in tents, the dressing room of my 2-horse slant, and the horse trailer section of the same trailer, and I can tell you, this spring I am hoping to have some bills paid off and be searching for my dream LQ.  I'm tired of taking 2 hours to set up camp (in the rain so sucks) and then taking 3 hours (in the rain soooooo sucks) to take apart to camp for 3 days with my horse!  The only pros I've really found for the tent are that you can hear your horse very well in the night, however, if he's the spooky sort, that zipper at 2 am when you traipse outside in your skivvies to go potty can really scare the snot out of him. (No, it's not the sight of my skivvies!!!)  Plus, every time I roll over he hears me a neighs/nickers for some more food!

Sleeping in the back of the trailer is only slightly sucky, a tarp on the floor with a rug on top is not too bad, a cot (that squeaks all night) to sleep on, propane heater (drop down windows open or trailer door cracked) so doable, but not the most comforatable.

Truck cab, been there, done that, no more!! Can you say cold?  And no one wants to run their diesel all night and piss off the neighbors.  Plus, I'm 5'8" and the seats are not flat and what do you do about the seatbelts, they dig right into you - somewhere!!,

Trailer dressing room? Did that too, cold, no room and you have to move all your stuff out to make a bed and let me tell you I pack everything but the kitchen sink.

At the Dunes ride this past year, we got the camp set up before it poured, but when we went to bed, it poured and the wind about blew us away. Tent leaked and we even had a canopy set up over it to protect from the wind/rain. After the ride, Karen Lieman generously offered me a hot shower and man was it appreciated!!!! I'm hooked now, I want to pull in, park, put up the corral, feed my horse, open the awning (if it's not windy) take out the lawn chair and sit down with a beer and watch him eat!!  So, I'll be selling my nice little thurobilt 2-horse slant this spring and looking for a 2-3 horse slant with shower, bed, heater and awning!!!  It's only money!!!  (My stepdaughters mom and sisters think we're rich because we have horses/trailer/barn/property/truck - if they only knew the truth!! We'd be rich if we didn't have those things.... Priorities people!!)
