I train my horses at the gaits they use on the ride
itself. Some prefer the canter, some the trot. I let them
choose. I do encourage a canter though to give me a break from that damn
trot. Ol' Bay's trot was like a jack hammer, so in his later years and
mine, I usually asked him for his great rocking chair canter. I don't care
what Maggie does, she is comfortable to ride at whatever gait she chooses other
than that drop to the ground jump 10 feet sideways gait.
