[RC] horse off? BC - terre

Personal pet peeve...a 0 on soundness for BC!! GRRRR! A Grade 1 intermittent on circles only one way...and a 0 after 75 miles? That's just wrong! But, that's just part of our sport.

I have to disagree with this.
The purpose of the BC judging is to identify the horse in the best condition "out of the top ten FINISHERS". In other words--the horse has already been judged sound enough to complete--no more than GII lame. You can't say: yeah, he's a little off--but he looks pretty darn good after 75 miles; that's not how it works. All the horses being judged have gone 75 miles. If you 'make allowances' for the distance, you'd give 'em all 10s and not be able to 'sort' them according to soundness. So, just barely completing should be a 0, and any consistency in a circle should be a 1-4. I really think there probably "ain't no 10s".

terre (to put it another way, a "C" for gut sounds isn't "5", it's 0, because it's the lowest grade you can complete with)
