Re: [RC] [AERCMembersForum] National Forest Land Sales - magnumsmom

Jim,

Yet another smoke screen... blame the environmentalists.

It is possible to cut timber properly without destroying
habitat for the next 200 years. There is no reason to cut
any of the less than 5% "old growth" left in this country.
There is no reason why logging has to mean "clear cutting"
except that clear cutting is CHEAPER.

Forest and environment management is a lot more than
just cut or don't cut. The environmentalist have not one
damn thing to do with it. $$$ does though...

Take a hint from deep throat... "Follow the money..."

Kathy Myers
ps... how do you like having O2 to breathe?

Subject: [AERCMembersForum] National Forest Land Sales

Another little "tidbit" of mis-information by "omission" by the Bush Administration. This from an article in the Chattanooga Times Free Press. If you think that the FS land sold in a specific county would go to the schools in that county, think again! That is NOT the case. For example, in Tennessee, 527 acres in Polk County are in the plan to be sold. These counties would NOT receive those funds directly.

"The sale of the 527 acres in Polk County likely would bring considerably more than what would be needed to continue the payments, but administration officials said the money would not stay in Polk County.

Any proceeds from the sale of national forest acreage would be pooled, and most would go to pay the higher subsidies in Oregon and other Western states, said Dan Jiron, national press officer for the USDA Forest Service in Washington, D.C."
