RE: [RC] [RC] slack reins/"on the bit"/on your hands,etc/Olympic videos - Juli Jakub

It was a disappointment to me also...dressage you don't want slack in the reins neccesarily but the connection should be very light and soft...in the Olympics I saw alot of tense, hard contact it looked like alot of horses and riders were straining. It is too bad really that the true meaning of dressage is being lost. As for position...yes you strive for it...many event riders don't actually have a great position which has been commented on over the years by many other disciplines! But they are scrappy riders and when it hits the fan they do what they must to stay seated and moving forward. But the fun of horses is no one ever really gets perfect all the time...you always have something to reach for...

So I took this to mean that these proper forms are what you strive for,but not neccesarily something you can always do,or even want to do when the sh-- hits the fan.In the dressage ring,I saw almost no slack reins on either the 3-day or Gran Prix dressage horses, which I thought was perhaps a dissapointment.
