RE: [RC] [RC] Parelli on Jigging--LONG - Juli Jakub

I don't know if Parelli coined this one....I had a trainer tell me this when I was a little girl and I am sure she had never heard of Parelli if he even was doing clinics then ( This was probably twenty years ago). She was die hard English and did not think much of Western and is a classical dressage rider and eventer...does not buy into the natural horsemanship stuff neccesarily. Just a note she is a wonderful rider with wonderful relationships with her horses and I love to ride anything she has trained they are so supple and well behaved and in love with their job...it is joy to ride them...so classical methods used as they were meant to be used do still work wonders! Xenophon was the man! I myself will listen and learn from anyone, mix it with my own ideas and proscribe to K.I.S.S. Keep It Simple Stupid...I particularly like GaWaNi Ponyboy...he believes in simplicity and time...no fancy gadgets needed beyond a halter. He does use the roundpen, but I told him I did not have one...he said "So what! Go out, take long walks, spend lots of time, and be consistent and you will have a good horse. I love that man!! I trained many good horses before round pens existed...it just seems to be all the rage these days and I was wondering if I was missing something! But I still use my own ways with some but minimal lunging, lots of ground driving, and lots of walking...like for hours!! I still study true classical riding that focuses on softness and suppleness...I see so many top dressage horses and people these days that have force and tension in their frames...I don't like it...maybe I should take up Western Pleasure!

More than once I have been faced with a rider having problems on a trail
ride because the horse was pulling and jigging to no end.
One particular time there were over 100 horses along on the ride and the
rider was having a harder and harder time holding back his horse. I had him
dismount his horse, leaving the saddle and bridle in place, and turn his
horse loose. I had the guy hop on another horse and ride double to observe
what his horse would do. Within minutes the horse found a more central and
safe position in the herd, the head dropped down, and he walked along calm
as could be.
