I always thought that true collection belonged to the upper level dressage
horses. The lower level horses were "on the bit" and in a frame, but not a true
collection frame. I don't think it is possible to ride a horse competitively in
a collected frame. But you can certainly ride for miles with a horse softly on
the bit and engaged.
