Re: [RC] [RC] Little-S hackamore: collection/impulsion/truth - Juli Jakub

I have to agree with this. I see it all the time in students and even in the higher level show ring of all different disciplines. People are so worried about the horses head set that they forget that it is a small part of collection. True collection comes from behind and through....if you worry about the head, you are worrying about the wrong end. No matter what is in the horses mouth or on its nose the impulsion has to come from behind only then will you start to get a truely collected frame. If you are more worried about head set you often get a horse that is flexed or broken at the poll, yet his back is not round and the hind end is still dragging behind. A horse ridden like this also can have breaks in the line in its neck vertebrae at other areas than the poll...this looks okay the horses head may be on the "vertical" still, but it is not correct... the line of energy through the topline is broken. I don't know if I am explaining that right...anyway my advice ride from the hind, don't worry about the head. If you ride form behing eventually the head set will come by itself...this is advice I have to tell myself often especially when I feel someone watching...then I get that oh my god someone is watching I better make this horse look good syndrome and I have to stop myself from riding from the hand to get a "frame". It is easier as I get older...I don't care what people think of me as much!! Thanks to all that gave me hackamore advice. I actually bought a S hack from Running Bear and I tried my filly in her rope halter and had a great ride...she was actually more willing to collect properly in it than with the bit...go figure...but I had less turning control than with a bit. Thanks again!

I'd like to say that about "true collection," however, I don't think I
should.
So many folks get focused on the face of the horse and forget the sequence
of locomotory components in order to get efficient forward movement that it
can get quite frustrating for some folks.

True collection is true connection.
