Re: [RC] Let's talk endurance goals for '06 - rdcarrie

Ooohhh...I like this thread soooo much better!!!  Can't wait to see what everyone has planned!

Here are my goals for '06:
I have a 6 1/2 yr old gelding (Bear) that I started in 50s this year at Fort Stanton.  I hope to do a 75 on him in February, keep doing 50s on him, and aim for his (and my!!) first 100 next fall.
I also have a 5 yr old gelding (Sundance) who has yet to do his first ride.  I hope to start him with his first ride (a 50) in January, and do 5-7 50/55s on him during the coming year.
AND (I'm not done yet) I'd like to get my 19 1/2 yr old gelding, Chivas, back in shape and do a couple of 50s on him...he had colic surgery in Sept., and really get depressed watching me take the "kids" out on the trail without him.

Of course, this is all subject to how soon I can get back in the saddle to continue conditioning, after Sundance pitched me off into a tree and broke one of my ribs this past weekend.  But I rode the last 35 miles of a 55 at Day 1 of Fort Stanton this past summer while passing a kidney stone, so I'm predicting a return to the saddle very soon...I have a pretty high pain threshhold...which my husband rather rudely refers to as being "pigheaded."  <G>

Dawn in East Texas (who wishes breathing were optional right now...ouch!)

Subject: [RC] Let's talk endurance goals for '06

Since I refuse to enter the current food fight on RC, I think we should change the subject....

The Question of the Day: What are your goals for '06, and how are you going to obtain them?

My answer:  I am planning on doing at least five 100 milers on Equal Terms this coming season - a VERY lofty goal, but obtainable, I think.  She will be 15, it will be her fifth year of competition, and she did three 100s, a 75, and several 50's (including back to back 50's twice) in '05.  I was going to retire her and start riding my next mare in line, Bey Allure, who will be 10 next year, but ET is sound and LOVES going down the trail, and seems to thrive on 100s....since I LOVE 100s, it seemed like a no brainer to keep her on the trail.

She is having a few months off now, with her shoes pulled and her coat shaggy.  I will start riding her lightly in mid Feb and take her to the Sand Hills 100 in SC in mid March.

That's the plan----what is yours????
