Here is what someone told me to do at a ride - I had a nice level spot and didn't need to unhook - I have similar truck/trailer combo to yours.....get a nice big block of wood and place it under your trailer jack.  Lower your trailer unto the wood block just enough to get the weight of the trailer off the truck tires/shocks - you'll see the truck bed come up slightly.  Stop and leave it like that.  Don't go so far that your trailer is lifting the truck.  A big block of wood takes up the space between the jack and ground so you don't have to crank so far.  I also went ahead and unplugged the trailer from the truck.  I don't know if that was necessary but I didn't want the trailer draining the truck battery.
