Re: [RC] 88 WEC Trail - Maryanne Gabbani

Hey guys. How about tackling the FEI in its lair. It can be done from the ground if you think that it is important enough. And the main weapon is the press. Evil hates the light of day. Start opening windows, get articles in Equus, etc. It will take time but the effect is cumulative. No one hears anything about these events other than what is written in the press anyway and as we learned from the famous spurs incident, when people start talking loudly and publicly, even the FEI will notice.

Find out who the bigwigs are. Contact them personally. This is all coasting on inertia.

I sure agree with this...but this year's WEC was the cumulation of YEARS' of pre-positioning and posturing, backed by money being doled out ostensibly as "supportive" in nature.
Who is the "USA" of whom you speak?
How does that "USA" get its voice heard?

It is AERC International. They are our voice. As far as I can see they are afraid of their own shadow to speak up for the AERC interest if it is contrdictory to the wishes of the UAE financed FEI. Hope I am wrong about this but it sure doesn't look that way.

Heidi postulated that by participating in this year's WEC we'd make some kind of statement. What statement was made by our participation this year?

We made the statement that we have no backbone.

Does the AERC have a voice in the WEC, even if it is only by extension, in that the riders are typically picked from members of the AERC?

Not unless it stands up and demands one.

I really don't know where the answers will come from.

I'm not optimistic they will come from anywhere - I sure hope I am proved wrong.

If we want to make a change we will demand of our BOD to direct AERC International to force the change. If they can't susceed, it's time we walk away from the WEC. At some point negotiations will only get you so far. At some point to you have to stand up and stand for something. It's time we stand up to the world and stand for endurance riding. We invented the sport it's time we took the responsibility to protect the sport.
