Re: [RC] white line - rides2far@xxxxxxxx

>>>What remedies can any of you recommend for white line/seedy toe?

Formaldehyde. I get it from my vet. Once or twice will do it.

clean and I've read the hoof wall needs to be pared away.

I think the main problem with the hoof wall being there is that the dirt & debris gets trapped up in there and the pebbles press against the tender area. My vet had me soak cotton in iodine, stretch it out in thin strips and pack it up in the groove. I never pared away the wall. The cotton will literally stay in there for weeks if you leave it and the horse doesn't have the tiny gravel trapped up in there. I packed the one I'm dealing with and then was too busy to check it for about 10 days. After I pulled all the cotton out I wished I'd left it in there. It didn't look like it intended to go anywhere, but I put in a fresh application.

 All I'm doing
right now is keeping it clean until the farrier can come back out since
it hasn't gotten any better.  Should I insist he pare it away?  It isn't
deep, maybe 1/8 - 1/4 inch in.  I've been using thrush buster (at the
recommendation of my vet).  I used clorox once but really hated doing
that, didn't seem right.
