[RC] RE:[liability and neighborhood kids?] - Sandra Walker

Could be Truman. I don’t know what the rules are as to whether State Farm can only do this in one state and not others and whether they are just cutting professionals, though it’s really easy to muddy the distinction between amateur and pro.

I tried way back to buy an umbrella or farm type policy from them and they wouldn’t do it, so I just insured my house by itself, and my barn by itself, and same for my horse trailer. And get this…about two years before they cancelled on me I got a call one day from my agent’s office. The gal on the phone told me that they were combining my barn insurance and home together but my premium would not go up. I said okay and didn’t feel like I needed to know why as she acted like it was no big deal. I thought maybe it was to simplify paperwork or something. Well, once they cancelled on me and I had to start calling for new coverage, I found out that my agent did this because State Farm didn’t want to cover barns anymore (again maybe in just Texas and maybe just commercial?) but he didn’t want to lose the premium for the barn so he combined the two without headquarters knowledge. New agents I talked to said that if my barn had caught fire for instance, State Farm might have refused to cover it, or may have covered it but would have been upset with my agent for doing this. And here’s another kicker: they still cover my horse trailer! LOL I would have switched it too but nobody, not even my USAA, could cover it cheaper than State Farm when I last checked. The last time I had to call my State Farm agent (and I always end up talking to his secretary) I told her I’d found out about their little coverage “switcheroo” and if she EVER calls me again with one of their stupid “switchtothispolicyandsavemoney” deals I will report my find to State Farm Headquarters. You know they’ve been REALLY quiet! <G&G>

And thanks Laney for your confirming words. Nobody, including our horses, can ever get too much praise!
