[RC] good dog - oddfarm

Diane, I've never had a bad dog. I've never had a purebred either except for the greyhounds. They are the sweetest, although very simple minded, dogs. They are quiet, very well mannered, clean and easy keepers. At least all of mine were. We have had four greyhounds, a German Shepard, oh yeah, I guess she was a purebred too, (also very simple minded) 2 hounddogs(plus Lou) that were totally opposite, a peek-a-poo and a Westie mix. The Westie mix was the smartest dog I have ever known. I had her for 18 years!

The last 3 of our dogs (and Lou) died this past winter/spring and I swore I wouldn't get another one. I found thee most beautiful cat in the world at the SPCA, (my princess) and plan to take her camping with me. She is soooo much easier to care for then the dogs were.

Then we went to the SPCA because we had 2 armed robberies right in my neighborhood and I didn't feel safe. All they had were pitbull mixes or chow mixes. I wasn't interested in any of those. Then they had some Shepard mixes but they looked funny. Then we saw Jazz-E. She is black with a white chest, half lab and half hound,(we are really drawn to the simpleminded dogs;) about 6 months old and so sweet. She is quiet for a pup and pretty well mannered.

I half looked for another dog for a while and really wanted a Boxer. I couldn't leave Jazz-E at the shelter though and had to bring her home. I saw some really nice dogs but you never know which one is calling YOU! My dad found a nice Shepard at a rescue shelter for just that breed. So if you do want a purebred, they have rescues, too. Also I found out that sometimes the SPCA will keep the smaller dogs out of the kennel because it tends to make them nervous and people are not as inclined to adopt a shaking dog. But if you ASK they will tell you what they have.

Good Luck in your search. Horse people tend to take in the unwanted and end up with the cream of the crop. Well, maybe not here at the Odd farm, but they all have been sweet! Even Sweetie Pig!
