[RC] Nancy Sturm - Mary Krauss

Thoughts from a novice: had you wormed your horse with one of those super-wormers (Praziquantal or whatever it's called) before the diarrhea episodes began? My horse had the same sort of diarrhea attack after I used ComboCare. My vet said he's guessing about 5% of horses are badly affected and wished we had an ADA for animal products to protect us from rotter-products like that overly poisonous stuff.

If you think the diarrhea occurred because of something consumed, I'd bet you'd hardly need to lay off at all. If you think it occurred because of illness, I'd lay off for a couple of weeks, then return with two days, not in a row, of light work. As a former xc coach, that sort of layoff, followed by a mild re-introduction, was plenty for an athlete who'd been ill. After that we jumped right back into whatever level of training we were doing before.

Good luck to you. I'm glad he's recovering nicely.
Mary K.
