[RC] [RC] Feeding/riding issue/BP soaking - Lucy Chaplin Trumbull

Sandy - I second Ranelle's comment about Singing
Springs (the Georgetown branch thereof, even). They
carry a *very* nice three grain forage mix that my
guys are fat and healthy on. It's clean, good smelling
hay and after two years of feeding it, I've never
had a bad bale (all of it from Singing Springs).

I used to only be able to store about 9 bales at a
time, so would just take the truck up to Georgetown
and have Brandy fill it up.

Because of the sort of "exciting" behaviour you
describe, alfalfa isn't allowed on our property. :)
The three grain keeps every sane... more or less.

Beet pulp:

BTW, the people having problems soaking BP - can
you get the shredded kind? If so, it doesn't need
the same amount of soaking as the pellety kind.

When I feed BP, I throw it in the pan, add goodies,
add water so it's really soupy - and feed it straight
away. It sounds like a bunch of pigses eating in the
barn, the amount of slurping that goes on. The pans
are sucked clean.

I figure the stuff is soaking while they eat it.

With regard to dry feeding it, Mouse once ate about
20 lbs of the stuff, dry, when she got into a sack
of it. Apart from looking like she'd eaten a large
turkey dinner, she had no ill effects.

Of course, if you have a horse that bolts its food,
this method may not work.
