Re: [RC] Bloody Nose - Mike & Kathy Kelly

My 15yo gelding gets a bloody nose (very small trickle) about once a month (at least that I see). It has never been more than a trickle, but was certainly noticeable and concerned me. It has been happening for the past 4-5 yrs, and doesn't seem to be seasonal. It is not excercize induced, usually I'll just notice it at home when he's in his dry lot. There has only been one time it has bled during an endurance ride, and again it was a very small amount.

I have asked 3 vets about it. They have all told me not to worry about it unless he ever bleeds a lot. They have suggested it is a polyp. So I do keep an eye on it, but so far my otherwise very healthy horse doesn't seem to be at risk from it.
