Re: [RC] did AHA give in or did they have no choice - Katrina O'Neal

Actually, he did say that, only phrased differently. Basically he said the decision was for the overall good of the registry and now they can put all of this behind them and move on. I don't recall reading in the message that it was a "wonderful" decision.

As far as the "giving in" part, I suspect (and this is only my
assumption, that's all) that the new AHA president had something to
do with it. He seems to want to resolve all this stuff (lawsuits) in

Minor clarification - to stop draining $$ out of AHA, which is responsible in part for many of the Registry's expenses post-merger, which is an entirely OTHER issue.

As far as "caving" to save money, a law suit like this can literally put
an organization like AHA out of business financially. I am not
condoning the decision, I am just stating that it wasn't a matter of
spending some money, it was a matter of AHA viability.

There is some truth to this--but I would feel far more comfortable if they
would SAY that they are doing it to stop draining money, instead of
touting it as such a wonderful decision. We all understand about having
to compromise sometimes due to financial drain--but that shouldn't mean
that we compromise our principles. It bothers me to see the compromise
promoted in terms of what a wonderful thing it is, instead of telling the
truth that fighting it was breaking the organization and that it is
accepted with chagrin.
