Re: [RC] truck - rides2far

Cheryl wrote that she used a Dodge Dakota Quad cab to pull a 2 horse
trailer.

I had a Dodge Dakota 4x4 and pulled a 2 horse. Felt like it pulled OK but
went through the transmission in no time. (It was an automatic). Turned
out that was its 2nd transmission so I put the 3rd in and sent it on its
way. The mechanic jumped all over me for using it to pull a 2 horse.
Thought I was going to have to get out and push climbing the Cumberland
Plateau. It was a regular 2 horse steel trailer and 2 Arabs inside. If I
were buying a truck for towing a 1/2 ton is as small as I'd go. Never had
a bit of trouble pulling with a 1/2 ton 8 cylinder, and got by with the
6...these trucks were 79's so I know they've juiced up the 6 cylinders or
something these days.

Dumbest moment: Friend's truck tore up at a horse show and I volunteered
my husband's jeep to pull 4 fat Quarter Horses in a 4 horse stock bumper
pull. He said that trailer drove him all over the place. We were young
and stupid so he lived. Remember increased wheel base length = stability!
:-P
