[RC] pommel pack question - Linda Dewees

I have a Stowaway pommel pack I've been using on my Sport Saddle. It's the one with water bottle holders. I've been using straps around the saddle pommel to hold it up off the horses withers, which works great except I can't hold my hands as low down as I like. I noticed in pictures that if the pack was on an english saddle it must lay right on the horses withers. It would be nice to just snap the pack to the front rings on my saddle and have it more out of the way of my hands, but it "looks" so hot and uncomfortable for my horse that way. How does everyone else do it?
