Underinflated tires heat up and blow much faster than normally inflated. 2) The max pressure listed on tires is the maximum COLD (defined as driven less than 10 miles after sitting over night) pressure. The tire manufacturers design the tire to be inflated to that pressure COLD and to have the pressure increase in use. In fact you can inflate about 10% over max and gain some load carrying capacity at the expense of some increase in chances of road hazard damage. The door stickers on trucks are for the tires supplied with the truck (you may have replaced them with better ones) and are for what the truck manufacturer considers the best compromise of handling, ride and tire life, not the maximum freedom from a blowout. I have routinely run at maximum pressure or 10% more and only see a change in handling when the truck is EMPTY. If you want maximum comfort, handling etc when the truck is empty, you need to let some air out of the tires (especially te back) and then be sure to reinflate before towing your trailer.
