[RC] My horse's face is swollen... - Nina Vasiliev

Hi all,

Just need some advice.

My 4 yr old's face is swollen today. Just the left half, from about 2 inches below her eye, to the top of her left nostril. The area is minimally warmer than the other side of her face. It is pitting edema, (when I push the pad of my thumb into the swelling, the print leaves half as much of an indentation.) She does not have discharge coming from her eyes or nostrils. I could not find a spot that looked like a bite from an insect or snake. She is evenly swollen between her jowls, no lymph nodes though.

She was the first horse to greet me in the pasture. She looks bright and happy. Ate the carrot rounds I gave her, but did drop one after "mouthing" it. I tried to grab her tongue and take a look in her mouth, but I am not very good at that so I wasn't able to check for stuff in her mouth. We did have an equine dentist work on her teeth 2 months ago.

Any thoughts? I'd be glad to call the vet if necessary, or is this just an allergic response to something that will go away?
