Re: [RC] [RC] registration - Lonnie RueschGretchen,I can "feel your pain." Had kind of the same situation as yours, but different! Got my mare from a lady in a different town. Found a freeze mark and discovered she was registered so I though it would be neat to get her paperwork. Got the name of her last registered owner from AHA and tracked her history from lady I bought her from back to her farrier, to a sale barn in Calif., to the name of the guy who brought her to the sale barn, to an older gentleman who couldn't take care of her anymore and had given her to the guy that brought her to the sale barn. Whew! what a convoluted story. Anyway, contacted the last reg. owner, who said she had given her on consignment to an "older gentleman" she had used before and then found out some long time later at a show that the older gentleman had died. She contacted the elderly widow who didn't know anything about the horses. She claimed she had never been paid for the horse or two others. (Who gives their horses on consignment and then never checks back to see what's going on?) She said she wasn't going to bother the widow any more because it just upset her. I offered to pay her a small amount for the mare's paperwork, but since I had already paid $1300 for her I couldn't afford to pay too much. At first she replied to my letters, but then just refused to answer back (including a registered letter.) So I have given up on ever getting the mare's papers. I have bred her twice as a grade mare to purebred Arab stallions as she has excellent temperment and conformation. Both of her foals have gone to endurance homes and their owners are very pleased so far (neither are in competition yet because they are young yet). And my mare is 24 now and has a forever home bacause she has carried me for many miles and I can never let her go.
