Must be part of that American Dream. Laurie Hey, that pretty much describes Kahlil and I! We started back when the "conventional wisdom" included that you couldn't do rides more often than a month or two apart without ruining the horse, and that you couldn't run for First-to-Finish repeatedly without ruining the horse. Our first ride (a 25 mile LD), as I watched the front-runner 50's gallop in shortly after I'd finished the 25, I thought "Wow! I'll never be able to do that!" But we did, and "the rest is history." And Kahlil is still a happy horse at 31 years old. Winning rides, then Regional Championships, then National Championships, and ... AERC Hall of Fame! ... was indeed a dream come true for me. When I was a kid and kids chose sides for teams, I wan't last pick ... I was the one where they said "we were stuck with him last time, you have to take him this time." I was awful at stick&ball games. I even had a high-school Phys Ed teacher sneer to my face about "brains" who couldn't play sports. So I think back "How many of them ever became a National Champion at anything?" How sweet it is. -- Joe Long jlong@xxxxxxxx http://www.rnbw.com ============================================================ REAL endurance is sleeping in the tack compartment of your trailer w/the door open, and your horse snorts/snots on your forehead every 30 min! ~ Heidi Sowards ridecamp.net information: http://www.endurance.net/ridecamp/ ============================================================
