[RC] Riding Safety on the Trail - kazevedo

Hey Ridecampers,
I'm wondering what's in everyone's saddle packs. The cougar thread
made me
think of safety... I always try to keep bear pepper spray with me in case I
find myself needing to scare off a large animal. Then again, think of the mess
it would be if the pepper spray drifted downwind and got in my horses eyes!
Ack- not good!
So, what does everyone take out on a usual ride? My guess would be
something
like: EZ boot, pocket knife, water, energy bar, a few band-aids, twine or
rope, hoofpick, and vetrap or duct tape. That is what I carry with me usually,
but I should probably add a few more things to the list: rain poncho or
garbage bag, flash light, whistle...
I also like the idea of having a fanny pack on me so that if the horse
and I
get separated, I have my cell phone and some safety items with me. Does anyone
do this? I know there are nifty packs that strap around a person's ankle also.

I think I saw those on the sportack website. Has anyone tried those out?
Katie in CA --and I'll admit... the first thing I put in my saddle pack is
carrots :)--
