[RC] fittness - mfarmLike many have said, "where there is a will there is a way." I worked 2 horses every other day in the mornings during the early spring. Getting up before light and riding on logging roads before work. I loved it, my energy and attitude about life was so much better if I rode in the morning than if I missed a day. I would try to do a medium to fast 10 miles with some hill work. I would also ride for 2 to 3 hours on each day of the weekend. Every horse is different, but with this schedule I was able to take a horse to a good finish in her first LD, and a 6th and BC in her seccond ride. I have reduced the amount of riding over the winter to give them a break, and for practical reasons (riding on logging roads at night is a bit dangerous, spot light hunters and drunks are out in the hills at night). I still take a nice long ride on the weekend, and spend one night for about 45 min to 1hr in an arena on each. This helps keep there head in the game and lets me work on some flextion and balance that we both nee. I am planning to do 50's this year, so my weekend milage will increase. The biggest issue that I faced with going from 25's to 50's was that my girls thought they were done at the half way point and sort of gave up. More mental than anything. I hope this helps.
