As he states on his web site, Dr. Cook does have a
US Patent for a bridle. I looked it up. He has relatively broad
claims. If it is a valid patent, he can stop other people from selling in
violation of his patent. He is not claiming the name etc or a trade
mark.
Note that not all patents are valid.
