Personally as a rider I like the more organized and predictable vet checks using the FEI system. When you are tired it is very much easier to follow an organized ritual than to try to figure out how things are being done at this ride.

Walking out a pulse lane around and back in, is also a logical consequence of trying to gain a few seconds by taking your horse to the P/R person sooner than you should.
