Kim, you need to have a selenium test done on your horse by drawing 
blood.  Normal runs between 130 - 180.  Endurance riders like to see 
the level on the high side of 180 and over.  

Warning to those who tend to get carried away. Selenium is toxic in high
amounts and overdosing will really trash your horse's hooves. Watch for
horizontal separation in the hoof wall That's a common sign. I've seen it
more than once.
