Re: [RC] quarters/paints and the numbers - Chris Paus

I think that's just part of the equation. It takes so
long to develop a reputation and clientele in this
business or any business. And in horse breeding, it
takes so long, years, to get something not only on the
ground, but rideable and out in the public where
people can see the fruits of your labors.

I've been in this sport for awhile, but haven't
ventured out of the central region so a lot of people
know me by email. And I do a lot of CTR so if you look
in my AERC records, it doesn't look like I've done a
lot in 8 years, LOL...because my CTR miles don't show
up. So judging what horses and people have accomlished
by their online records can be misleading.

The other part of the equation for me is that I'm
awfully picky about where my babies go and I've been
selling mostly babies. If I have a riding age horse to
sell, it wasn't bred here. A lot of people don't want
to mess with youngsters. They want a horse they can
hop on and ride now. And I'd rather that people not
buy a baby if they aren't ready to deal with all the
training and groundwork that goes into them.

I've got a very nice homebred mare that everyone who
sees her wants. This one I'm keeping and I'll have her
out in competition next spring. She's only 4 this
year. When people fall in love with her, I can tell
them that her full brother is for sale back at the
farm, LOL...

I guess I'm not a very good horse seller in that once
I fall in love with one, it's not for sale. That's
another reason I sell babies... the longer they stay,
the harder it is for me to part with them!
