My old beagle has something very similar. I've kind of assumed they 
were some sort of lipoma. Seems like he is mostly lumps these days, 
from his groin areas to back and neck. He will be 13 this year and has 
been that way a long time. He is a fat pig, and is pretty robust for an 
old guy. If those large lumps were all cancer, he'd be dead by now. 
Good luck-hopefully your horse will live to a ripe old age. I am 
dealing with spreading sarcoids in my favorite mare-it can be a real 
pain in the neck.
